For everyone who searched for a music player with the look and feel of iTunes but platform independent, the first stable
Songbird release is out. At the first glance, Songbird look like a symbiosis of
Firefox and
iTunes, the impression didn't change if you dig deeper :). But, that's what I like and what I was looking for, so I made it to my new player on my
Ubuntu installation.

Well,
I was already testing with songbird last year in .NL and I had a mixed impression at that time:
1. It offers a crazy amount of new ways to explore new, often free Musik
2. It integrates with so very much that this was realy new ..
But I was not so satisfied with the look and feel of the program...
But think I should give it a try on my Media PC ...
Lets talk about it one day!
I use Songbird with the YABS theme, so the look and feel fit to my winter desktop themes :).
So, I did test the new Songbird now a bit:
- Works well!
- MP4 Playback was not working on my PC (Works fine in Winamp)
- Playlist handling could be improved, I downloaded the Extenstion to export the playlists, BUT it have not seen an Option to import multiple playlists...
- Displaying all aditional information is cool
- Last.FM could be integrated (Play not Scrobble) or did I get something wrong?
- While importing playlists I saw RSS and ATOM mentioned ... but interaction with YOUTUBE was not possible yesterday in a first try.
THAT would be cool to have the youtube playlist in Songbird in sync ...
